ABE Restaurant @MOA

My officemates and I went to Abe in MOA last November. Abe is one of those fancy-looking restaurants facing Manila Bay. We go to MOA everyday but we rarely go to that area since restaurants there are, well, fancy.

We ordered:

Calamares in su Tinta (Php250)

This dish has a very funny side story. Earlier that week, I craved for adobong pusit. For that week alone, I managed to eat adobong pusit three times, in different varieties. I think my officemates ordered this to make fun of me, or maybe they're doing me a favor because they thought my craving can't be satiated. The squid was cooked with the ink, which turned everything black, including my officemates' lips, teeth and tongue. Then I started making fun of them so we're quits. :D

Bicol Express (Php265)

This, I ordered by mistake because I was thinking of the meaty Luzon-version bicol express. That's what you get for not reading the menu carefully. It wasn't that bad really, tastes like the bicol express I'm used to minus the meat. But I did miss the meat. I just didn't know that that's what authentic Bicol Express is. Good thing we ordered this next one...

Knockout Knuckle (Php595)

This is their take of the famous cardiac-delight crispy pata. It was very tasty and crispy, the way crispy pata should be.

I'm pretty sure we also ordered Sinigang na Bangus Belly with Ripe Guava (Php399) but i don't know why I failed to take a picture of it.

As for my good friend R, she went there with her boyfriend E and her family that same week (meet the parents? yikeeeee). She said it was her first time to eat at their MOA branch. I can't quite remember if she said anything else except for that ridiculously priced house iced tea she and her BF ordered without checking first how much it was. Good thing my officemates and I chose house water. Hehe. Lesson learned: Water is better, healthier, and cheaper, than iced tea. :)

J.CO Branch in MOA

I went to this newly opened J.CO branch in MOA with my bum friends. We decided to try it out since we are all coffee lovers. :)

It turned out as a good choice because J.CO was giving away free glazzy donut for every cup of any J coffee. Yehey!

I ordered their hot americano coffee. With the free donut, and with a lot of kwento from friends, it was a perfect coffee break from my busy sched.

Cookie Crisp

These are not mini-cookies. This is Nestle Cookie Crisp Cereal. They don't take like chocolate chip cookies but they're delicious. I'm not too fond of cereal because milk gives me an upset stomach (so I just munch them like potato chips.)

Tagaytay Do's and Dont's

Do Eat at Leslie's and Try Their Bulalo

They say that can never claim that you've been to Tagaytay unless you've had Bulalo at Leslie's. I'm not crazy for Bulalo and I think Leslie's bulalo is 'ok'.  Unfortunately,I found the broth salty.  But a friend said that the Bulalo they served that day is was not their usual.

I loved their brewed Amadeo coffee though.  Whenever I eat some place new, I always try their brewed coffee (if they serve one).

Don't Stay at The Oh so Bulok Inn
I seldom stay overnight at Tagaytay.  In fact, I never do, this is the first time.  My friends booked a hotel at The Overlook Inn.  But I'd rather call it the Oh! Bulok Inn.

A tip:  When you book a hotel through Agoda, still confirm with the hotel even if Agoda said it's already booked.  Also, don't stay at Room 5.

Walang multo, pero may lamok. There's no table to put your over night bag on.  Walang wall socket, walang mirror ang CR, walang cable ang 12-inch CRT TV. And their complimentary breakfast is pork and beans, sunny side up egg, a slice of low quality loaf bread, and 2 not so juicy hotdogs.

Not worth it for Php 2k/ night.

The brighter side was, I had roof over my head and I was able to see this view from the veranda.
For those reasons, I remain thankful.

Do Eat at Mushroom Burger

I don't have a sophisticated palate nor a sophisticated brain so I will describe the burger steak as parang Jollibee burger steak na may after taste ng mushroom.  Not bad. Try mo lang, for the experience.  They also serve fries.  I wonder nga kung may mushroom din ba yung fries.

Picnic Grove

If you haven't been to Tagaytay, go na sa Picnic Grove.  Di ako mahilig magpicnic kaya sandali ko lang gusto mag-stay dito, ang inet kasi and medyo kuripot-mode ako, I don't want to rent a cottage.
You can also do horseback riding, bicycling, or ride(?) the zipline.
Gusto ko sana i-try yung zipline but it was already 2pm when we arrived (inet!) at the site and it was too expensive for me at Php 600/head.  Try ko na lang sa Davao, kase mas mahaba daw zipline dun.
Hmmmm... Kung may zipline sana from the grove to the volcano island.  Go go go ako.

Boat Ride to the Volcano Island
At the picnic grove may mga lalapit sayo to offer a boat ride para makalapit sa taal volcano island.
For a group of 7 we were charged 1k.  Not so mahal pero na-bad trip ako for about 3 seconds dahil sa hidden charges.  We ended up shelling out around 1,500 php total.
You might be wondering why 3 seconds lang ako na-badtrip... Well, life is short, GOOD VIBES dapat.

Do go to Sonya's Garden

We didn't get to try the food kasi we opted to eat at Mushroom Burger.
Madami kang makikitang plants and flowers dun.  Para sa di masyadong exposed sa halaman, natuwa ako.
We bought bread at the Panaderia inside the garden.
Masarap ang tinapay nila--very moist.

Rose Fountain at Sonya's Garden

Other to do's:
  • Starbucks Tagaytay.  Because of the very beautiful rooftop view (and dahil sobrang inet, for sure maghahanap ka ng cold drink).
  • Shop at Paseo de Sta. Rosa.  They have a lot of outlet stores (Levi's, Nike, Speedo, Adidas, Havaianas, etc.)
  • Visit Ilog Maria.  I didn't get to do this :(  Gusto ko sana mag-hoard ng sobrang daming organic stuff from them.  Pero I have to consider na ako lang ang may gustong gumawa nun.  Kaya next time na lang siguro.  Fortunately, at a quaint souvenir store at Leslie's I saw Ilog Maria soaps.  I ended up buying 2 soap variants and their Stingless Bug Repellant.

Krispy Kreme Coffee Surprise

A few days ago, Eric and I went to Krispy Kreme for coffee.  I was particularly sad that day so instead of ordering my usual, I got mocha instead.

The barista asked if I wanted whipped cream to go with it, I said no.  I don't like whipped cream.  When I eat whipped cream I feel like I'm eating air.

Anyway, I was surprised when they served me my coffee, coz it looked like this:

It had a heart on it!  How cute!!!  It looks a little bit lopsided, but who cares?

Eric's was cuter, because his had a pig on it.

I don't know which other coffee drinks are served with coffee art on it.  But next time I go to Krispy Kreme,  I'll try ordering mocha without whipped cream again.  Try it too! Let's see what they'll draw on your cup.
