We were supposed to go to
Burger Avenue but due to heavy traffic and hunger, we decided to eat somewhere
in Ayala instead. Rae came across a
newly-opened restaurant at The Columns.
Faburrito sells healthy Mexican food where customers can mix and match ingredients. Think: mexican-style Subway.
The ordering part was one of the major highlights of the experience. It was so cool when Faburrito staff rushed to us and eagerly assisted with ‘ordering mechanics’ and making suggestions on which ingredient goes best with another.
Here was our creation:
Order # 1 - Bowl + Cajun Beef + Fresh Tomato + Balsamic Vinaigrette (Php285)
I’m not too keen about this mix but Rae and her bf seemed fine with it. Maybe I’m just not a fan of vinaigrette--or maybe it’s the brown rice. But I did love the beef and the black beans. The serving size was for sharing but we were not given individual plates so we had a little trouble ‘sharing’ it. We informed one of the crew member about this and he welcomed our suggestion and considered it as possible future improvement. After all, they’re still on soft opening.
Order # 2 – Burrito + Peppered Pork + Mango Vinaigrette + Grilled Corn Salsa (Php270)
Except for the pork, the burrito was ok. I think the pork was not well cooked. I’m not sure if this can still be considered healthy. For me, I still prefer my pork well done.
Order # 1 - Tacos + Mango BBQ Chicken + Fresh Tomato + Onion Salsa + All dressings (Php270)
This one was a little spicy
because of the onion salsa. I loved it! It was messy to eat, but the mess was
worth it. The grilled chicken tastes amazing. Since we can’t decide on our
dressing, the crew gave us a sample of all 4 their dressings. Among these, I
liked the mango best.
For our drinks, we ordered
fruit green tea (with fresh fruit bits and honey – Php70) and bottled alkaline
water (Php30). One of the crew offered us free mint green tea, which was
awesome. They use fresh mint leaves for their tea. It tasted like
green-tea-after-just-brushing-your-teeth in a good way. I think it will be a refreshing
drink on a very sunny day.
It was a little pricey, but
that’s to be expected of restaurants who bank on “healthy” alternatives. All in all, our dining experience was a good
adventure.
